Cam Thomas Reportedly Signs Nets Qualifying Offer Contract, Has Full No-Trade Clause
Cam Thomas is returning to the Brooklyn Nets.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Thomas signed the one-year qualifying offer worth $6 million to remain with the Nets for the 2025-26 season.
In exchange for getting Thomas back on a bargain deal, Charania noted the Nets also gave him a full no-trade clause. The contract also allows him to hit unrestricted free agency next summer, when more teams will likely have cap space than they did this offseason.
The 2024-25 campaign was the final year of his previous contract after Brooklyn exercised the option on his rookie deal, which had a total value of $10.4 million, and the team extended him a $5.99 million qualifying offer earlier this offseason.
Thomas had expressed frustration earlier this offseason after a report painted him in a negative light:
After a breakout 2023-24 campaign in which he averaged then-career-highs across the board with a team-leading 22.5 points while adding 3.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 31.4 minutes, Thomas picked up right where he left off this past season. He set new career-best marks with averages of 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists. Unfortunately, he was limited to just 25 games while dealing with a hamstring injury that eventually forced him to be ruled out for the remainder of the year.
In 2023-24, the LSU product had four 40-point games, and his eight career 40-point games at the age of 22 or younger passed Bernard King for the most in Nets franchise history. The now-23-year-old added another one this past year when he dropped 43 points in a loss to the New York Knicks on Nov. 15.
With Thomas in and out of the lineup, the Nets finished with a 26-56 record and ranked 12th in the Eastern Conference. The team made history by making five picks in the first round of the 2025 NBA draft, led by No. 8 pick Egor Demin out of BYU.
By signing Thomas to a new, team-friendly deal, the Nets can at least feel good that their offense will be able to score points against many teams. Brooklyn is still in the midst of a rebuild, but signing Thomas at this point in the offseason is a solid move for the organization as it looks to find players who can be part of the next great core group.
