NBA Insider Weighs In on Mavericks' Stance On Any Potential Lakers Trade After Luka Deal

After trading star guard Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers last year, the Dallas Mavericks reportedly are no longer interested in doing business with the Purple & Gold.

The Athletic's Dan Woike reported that while the Lakers are eyeing some Mavs players ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, Dallas isn't looking to engage in trade discussions with Los Angeles.

"Naji Marshall has also generated interest around the Lakers, though the pathways to any deal with the Dallas Mavericks after the Luka Dončić trade last season have gigantic 'road closed' signs all over them," Woike stated. "The same is probably true for Daniel Gafford."

At 19-31, the Mavs rank 12th in the Western Conference and are expected to be sellers at the trade deadline. However, Dallas is still scorned over getting fleeced in last year's shocking blockbuster trade.

The Mavs sent Dončić to the Lakers in exchange for a package centered around star big man Anthony Davis, who has played in just 29 games for Dallas since being acquired due to various injuries. He's currently sidelined for an extended period due to ligament damage in his hand.

Meanwhile, Dončić has carried the Lakers to a 30-19 record while leading the NBA with 33.4 points per game. The 26-year-old will be in the starting lineup in the All-Star Game later this month.

The Mavs are running out of time to sell off their movable assets before Thursday's deadline, but it seems clear that the Lakers won't be on the list of potential trade partners.
