Dwyane Wade's Son Zaire Receiving CBB Interest, Would Former G League Player Be Eligible?
A handful of former G League players have returned to college basketball this season, and the son of an NBA legend could be the next to do so.
Zaire Wade, the son of Miami Heat icon Dwyane Wade, is interested in playing at the college level, per ESPN. According to ESPN, he has four years of eligibility remaining and has drawn interest from a handful of Division I programs.
Wade, 23, was a 3-star prospect in the class of 2021, per 247Sports' composite rankings. Rather than going the collegiate route, he decided to turn professional and was taken in the 2021 NBA G League draft.
Drafted by the Salt Lake City Stars, the Utah Jazz's affiliate, Wade played just 12 games before suffering a season-ending injury. He left the G League after his first season to join the Basketball Africa League. He then had a stint in the Asian Tournament in 2024.
If Wade decides to join a college team, he wouldn't be the first former professional player to do so this season. James Nnaji, the 31st pick in the 2023 draft, joined Baylor in December. Charles Badiako returned to Alabama last month after spending two and a half seasons in the G League.
Wade was unable to blossom into an NBA player during his time in the G League, but spending a few years in college could give him a fresh start.
