New Ja Morant Trade Rumors Update After Jaren Jackson Jr. Dealt to Jazz by Grizzlies

Doric SamFeb 3, 2026

After trading star big man Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz on Tuesday, it sounds like the Memphis Grizzlies aren't done shaking things up.

During an appearance on SportsCenter, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the Grizzlies are still exploring trades for star point guard Ja Morant ahead of Thursday's deadline.

"The Grizzlies' conversations around Ja Morant and entertaining offers [are] continuing around the league," Charania said. "There's multiple teams with interest in Ja Morant."

"I talk to executives around the league, they think that this changes what [the Grizzlies] can expect back in a Ja Morant trade," ESPN's Brian Windhorst said Tuesday on NBA Today. "Instead of trying to trade Ja for as much value as they can which frankly there's not as much value for Ja."

The Athletic's Sam Amick reported Tuesday that the Sacramento Kings "have still not completely closed the door" on the idea of trading for Morant. However, he cautioned that before Jackson was traded, the odds of the trade happening were believed to be in the "low-single-digits."

Charania reported last month that Memphis was "entertaining offers" for Morant following visible tension between him and the coaching staff under first-year head coach Tuomas Iisalo earlier this season.

The Grizzlies already began tearing down their core last offseason when they traded star guard Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic. Shipping Jackson away further solidifies a new philosophy in Memphis going forward.

"We've seen with Desmond Bane and now with Jaren Jackson Jr., this is a Grizzlies organization that is prioritizing their young core," Charania explained. "They had a few years of success here with Memphis, made some runs, this team looked like it had some promise, but they're now officially turning the page on this and stocking up with draft capital. But the Ja Morant trade conversations between now and Thursday's deadline are continuing to heat up and are continuing to go on."

The Grizzlies acquired seven first-round picks in the deals for Jackson and Bane, so they would undoubtedly boost that capital even further if they manage to trade Morant.

It's clear that Memphis is open to committing to a rebuild, so Morant's time in Grind City could be coming to an end this week.
