Analysts and fans provided their reaction to the trade news, with surprise and intrigue serving as the big themes:

The 26-year-old Jackson is a three-time All-NBA Defensive Team selection who played seven-plus seasons with the Grizzlies. He was part of some solid Grizzlies squads, including the 2021-22 and 2022-23 teams, which earned the Western Conference's No. 2 seed in back-to-back years.

The two-time blocks champion has averaged 19.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks this season.

He's clearly a big piece moving forward for the rebuilding Jazz, which sit with a 15-35 record but have intriguing pieces to contend, including Lauri Markkanen (27.4 PPG, 7.1 RPG) and breakout star Keyonte George (24.2 PPG, 6.6 APG).

As for the Grizzlies, this signals the end of an era built around Jackson and Ja Morant. The Grizzlies have been considering trade offers for Morant since mid-January, per Jonah Dylan of the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

Memphis now has three future first-round picks to work with as it undergoes its own rebuild. The question now is whether Morant is moved before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET deadline.
