Giannis Trade Rumors Addressed by Bucks' Jimmy Haslam Ahead of NBA Deadline, 'He's No Problem'

Paul KasabianFeb 3, 2026

Milwaukee Bucks co-governor Jimmy Haslam praised superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo as Thursday's trade deadline looms.

"Giannis is a top three, top four player in the world," Haslam said, per Eric Nehm of The Athletic. "He brought Milwaukee its first championship in 50 years several years ago, and he's a really good person too. He's no problem. He's a great leader, tries hard.

"And I think Giannis and the Bucks — and I think this goes back before we were involved — have always worked closely to see what's best for Giannis and what's best for the Bucks, and we'll continue to do so."

Haslam, who also owns the NFL's Cleveland Browns, made his remarks to reporters after Cleveland introduced their new head coach, Todd Monken.

ESPN's Shams Charania broke news on Jan. 28 that Antetokounmpo was "ready for a new home" either by the trade deadline or next summer.

Haslam was asked what a successful trade looks like during his chat with reporters and gave this response.

"That's a question for (general manager) Jon Horst," Haslam said.

At this juncture, odds favor Antetokounmpo staying in town, per Sam Amick of The Athletic.

"As of Monday evening, the offers coming the Bucks' way for the 'Greek Freak' were still believed to be so underwhelming — in the eyes of rival executives and agents — that this saga looks likely to extend into the summertime."

In his 13th NBA season, the 31-year-old Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.0 points on 64.5 percent shooting, 10.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists in 29.2 minutes per game. The nine-time All-NBA player, two-time NBA MVP and one-time NBA champion with the 2020-21 Bucks has played his entire career with Milwaukee.

As of now, Antetokounmpo is out with a right calf strain. Antetokounmpo told reporters he expected the injury to keep him out until late February or early March.
