LeBron James' '20-Plus-Year Prime' Praised by Lakers' Redick After NBA All-Star Nod, 'Unheard Of'

Andrew PetersFeb 2, 2026

LeBron James was officially named an All-Star on Sunday, marking his 22nd consecutive season receiving an All-Star nod.

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick called the historic streak "unheard of."

"When you think about a star player, their prime is their All-NBA, All-Star years," Redick told reporters. "He's basically had a 20-plus-year prime. It's unheard of, uncharted. It's incredible. It's a testament, again, to the work he puts in."

NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was named to 19 All-Star teams, but James is the only one to make 20 or more. It's fair to assume his streak of 22 All-Star appearances, and counting, will be safe for a while.

James was fairly humble when asked about his impressive streak on Sunday.

"Twenty-two straight, I think. Yeah, I didn't make it my rookie year," he said. "Twenty-two straight. Nah, it ain't bad. Blessed, honored. Truly."

While 22 All-Star appearances are nothing to scoff at, James and the Lakers have their eyes set on a bigger prize as they chase a championship.
