The NBA All-Star Game will once again look different this year, but there will always be a debate over which players deserved the honor of being selected for the league's annual showcase event.
After the starters for the 2026 All-Star Game were revealed on Jan. 19, the rest of the selections were announced on Sunday before the premiere of Sunday Night Basketball on NBC and Peacock, featuring a doubleheader with the New York Knicks hosting the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder visiting the Denver Nuggets.

Format
In yet another attempt to increase the competition level of the NBA All-Star Game, this year's event will mark the debut of a USA vs. World format in which two teams of U.S. players and one team of international players compete in a round-robin tournament featuring four 12-minute games. Each team will feature a minimum of eight players.
After the third game, the top two teams by record will advance to face each other in the championship matchup. If all three teams are tied with a 1-1 record after Game 3, the tiebreaker would be the point differential in each team's first two round-robin games.
Snubs and Reaction
Of course, there were multiple players who have enjoyed All-Star-caliber seasons but were left off this year's rosters.
The selection of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James for his 22nd All-Star Game raised some eyebrows, considering he missed significant time at the start of the season.
The snubs that stand out included Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, Boston Celtics guard Derrick White, Brooklyn Nets wing Michael Porter Jr., Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun, Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard and Utah Jazz guard Keyonte George.
Fans on social media quickly reacted to their favorite players being left out in the cold:
The league will now turn its attention to dividing the three teams of eight from the 24-player pool. It will be fun to see how the new format impacts the approach to the All-Star Game when things commence on Feb. 15.
