Kevin Durant Rips 'Fake Outrage' from Fan Blaming Him, LeBron James for Giannis Trade Rumors
The report from ESPN's Shams Charania that Giannis Antetokounmpo is open to a trade and the Milwaukee Bucks are starting to listen to offers led to Kevin Durant and LeBron James catching heat from at least one fan.
After a fan posted on X that all of the superstars wanting to leave their teams is the fault of James and Durant from their past moves, the Houston Rockets star ripped the person for "fake outrage."
James definitely spent a few years as the "villain" of the NBA as a reaction to The Decision in 2010, but all seemed to be forgiven when he went back to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014 and helped them win a championship.
Durant was persona non grata in Oklahoma City for awhile after leaving the Thunder, particularly because he signed up with a Golden State Warriors team that kept them out of the Finals in 2016.
The fan's attempt to draw a comparison with them and Antetokounmpo is odd because neither Durant nor James ever requested a trade from their original teams.
Durant did request a trade from the Brooklyn Nets during the 2022-23 season, but that was at a point when the organization was clearly a sinking ship because James Harden and Kyrie Irving had already been dealt.
There's also the question of why would anyone be outraged with Antetokounmpo looking at the situation in Milwaukee, thinking it's probably not a viable place to win a championship any time soon and at least indicate he would be open to playing elsewhere without specifically requesting a trade.
Antetokounmpo has been with the Bucks for 13 seasons. He has given them nine All-Star seasons, two MVP years and ended the franchise's 50-year title drought during the 2020-21 season.
It's hard for any player to do better than that with a single franchise over a 13-year period.
