Pistons' J.B. Bickerstaff Named 2026 NBA All-Star Game Head Coach for New USA vs. World Format
Detroit Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff will coach in the 2026 NBA All-Star Game after his team clinched the best record in the Eastern Conference through Feb. 1, the league announced Saturday.
The Pistons sit atop the Eastern Conference standings with a 32-11 record in Bickerstaff's second season with the organization after wrapping up a 44-38 finish during their 2024-25 campaign.
All-Star head coaches traditionally come from the team with the best record in each conference at the break.
The Oklahoma City Thunder hold the No. 1 spot in the Western Conference at 37-9, although Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault won't be patrolling the sidelines during All-Star festivities. Daigneault already coached the 2025 All-Star Game and NBA rules prohibit the same coach from coaching in consecutive All-Star Games.
The honor would instead go to the No. 2 seed in the West, which is currently occupied by the San Antonio Spurs and head coach Mitch Johnson.
As for Bickerstaff, he's done an admirable job to help turn around a Pistons squad that owned a 31-133 record in the two years prior to his arrival.
Detroit has thrived this season led by star point guard Cade Cunningham, who is averaging 25.3 points and a league-leading 9.7 assists per game on 45.1/32.1/82.3 shooting splits.
The Pistons have also been successful largely due to their defense, as their averages of 10.4 steals and 6.7 blocks per game are both the highest among all teams.
Detroit's 108.5 defensive rating ranks No. 2 in the league as well (via NBA.com).
The 2026 All-Star Game will take place on Feb. 15.
