Who Jets Reportedly Fired on Aaron Glenn's Staff Amid Search for New DC Ahead of 2026 NFL Season
The New York Jets reportedly parted ways with several members of its staff under head coach Aaron Glenn on Friday.
According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, the Jets fired quarterbacks coach Charles London, pass game coordinator Scott Turner, defensive line coach Eric Washington, linebackers coach Aaron Curry, defensive assistant Roosevelt Williams and fellow defensive assistant Alonso Escalante.
New York also remains on the hunt for a new defensive coordinator, as the team cut ties with Steve Wilks on Dec. 15.
The Jets could be close to finding their new defensive coordinator, as Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic previously reported that the future of several defensive assistants would be decided by Glenn and whoever replaces Wilks.
"Holdover Jets position coaches on defense are in a holding pattern, which, according to league sources, they've been told will be decided in coalition between Glenn and whomever he hires as defensive coordinator," Rosenblatt reported Monday.
The Jets have already conducted interviews with several candidates including interim defensive coordinator Chris Harris, Cleveland Browns safeties coach Ephraim Banda, Green Bay Packers defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington, Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach Daronte Jones, Denver Broncos assistant head coach Jim Leonhard, former NFL defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and Detroit Lions safeties coach Jim O'Neil.
Martindale was considered a "leading contender" for the job and spoke with Glenn before the end of the 2025 season, per Rosenblatt.
Cimini previously reported Glenn wants an "aggressive mentality" from his next defensive coordinator, meaning "pressure-based schemes."
The Jets are attempting to improve upon a 2025 campaign in which they struggled defensively, ranking No. 31 among all teams by allowing 29.6 points per game.
