Kevin Durant, Rockets Applauded By NBA Fans as Reed Sheppard Fuels Comeback Win vs. Wemby, Spurs
Star players generally fuel wins in the NBA. But sometimes, you need your role players to step up.
Reed Sheppard did so on Tuesday night, scoring 12 of his 21 points in the fourth-quarter as the Houston Rockets staged a double-digit comeback win against the San Antonio Spurs, 111-106.
The Rockets trailed by as many as 16 points in the third quarter but came roaring back, paced by the timely shotmaking of Sheppard along with a solid performance from Kevin Durant (18 points, seven assists) and nearly a triple-double from Alperen Şengün (20 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists).
Victor Wembanyama had a tame double-double by his lofty standards for the Spurs, scoring 14 points and adding 10 boards, while Julian Champagnie led all scorers with 27 points.
But the story on the night was Houston's comeback and Sheppard's role leading the charge:
With the win, the Rockets moved to 26-15 on the season and are currently the No. 4 seed in the West. The Spurs are 30-14 and remain in second. The two teams have now split the first two games of a four-game season series.
Up next for the Rockets is a matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday. The Spurs face the Utah Jazz that same day.
