Latest MLB Trade Rumors on Dodgers, Freddy Peralta After Kyle Tucker's Historic Contract

Joseph ZuckerJan 20, 2026

The Los Angeles Dodgers maintain interest in Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta, according to The Athletic's Katie Woo.

"The crop of young, controllable talent within their system shows the Dodgers can make a trade for Peralta," Woo wrote. "But they will only complete a trade if they believe there is a real need for him. Los Angeles' willingness to engage in Peralta's market shows at least some concern over the health and durability of its starters. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was the lone starter not to spend time on the IL last year."

Peralta led the National League in wins (17) while posting a 2.70 FIP and a 3.64 FIP in 33 appearances. He logged 160-plus innings for the third straight year and averaged 10-plus strikeouts per nine innings for the seventh time in eight seasons.

Beyond the right-hander's consistency, his modest contract will be enticing to the Dodgers. He'll make just $8 million in 2026 before hitting free agency.

Even a franchise as free-spending as Los Angeles reaches its limit sooner or later. Having signed Kyle Tucker to a four-year, $240 million deal, FanGraphs projects the team to have a $429 million payroll.

Purely in terms of the finances, there isn't a cheaper pitcher on the market who could match Peralta's impact in the rotation, which is clearly a factor for the Dodgers as they focus more on their expenditures.

They'll have serious competition the moment the Brewers signal they're going to deal their ace.

The New York Post's Jon Heyman cited the New York Yankees, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves as interested parties alongside L.A. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported the San Diego Padres "also are among the clubs to check in" on a Peralta trade.

If the 29-year-old were a free agent, the Dodgers would be the clear favorites in a bidding war. In a trade scenario, the playing field is much more level.
