Ja Morant Injury Update, Latest News on Timeline to Return for Grizzlies Star

Julia StumbaughFeb 18, 2026

The Memphis Grizzlies announced point guard Ja Morant will be reevaluated in two weeks as he continues to deal with a UCL sprain in his left elbow.

Morant last played in a Jan. 21 loss to the Atlanta Hawks when he suffered the injury.

Morant has been averaging 19.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.0 steals through 20 games of the 2025-26 campaign.

The Grizzlies star also missed time this season while dealing with ankle and calf issues.

He was sidelined for six games between Jan. 4 and Jan. 18 with a right calf contusion prior to the elbow injury he suffered on Jan. 21.

During that absence, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the Grizzlies were "entertaining offers" regarding a potential trade for Morant ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline, although they didn't move him.

Morant returned prior to the elbow injury on Jan. 18 to record 24 points and 13 assists in 28 minutes of a win over the Orlando Magic.

When asked about the trade rumors after the game, Morant told reporters he was a "very loyal guy" and that the Grizzlies logo tattooed on his back "should tell you exactly where I want to be."

Availability has been an issue throughout Morant's career, with the point guard appearing in just 59 games over his last two seasons in Memphis.

Now that Morant has apparently reaffirmed his commitment to the Grizzlies, the franchise will hope to see him healthier down the back half of the 2025-26 season.

More availability could not only help Grizzlies improve down the stretch, but also help Morant's case for an extension. The 26-year-old will be eligible for a three-year, $178 million contract this summer.
