He spent six seasons with the Giants from 1997 through 2002, earning National League MVP honors in 2000.
He earned the first of his five career All-Star nods during his tenure in San Francisco.
Kent hit .297 with 175 home runs, 247 doubles and 689 RBI across 900 games played as a member of the Giants. He still sits at No. 10 on San Francisco's all-time home runs leaderboard.
Led by manager Dusty Baker with a lineup that also included Barry Bonds, the Giants made three postseason appearances while Kent was with the team. This included a run to the 2002 World Series before narrowly falling to the Los Angeles Angels in seven games.
Kent discussed the impact that joining San Francisco had on his career after he was announced as a Hall of Fame inductee.
"That was the turning point of my career," Kent said Dec. 8, per Justice Delos Santos of the Mercury News. "When I got to San Francisco, (manager) Dusty Baker lit a fire under me to be better — not to achieve the normal standard but to achieve more. Dusty was a guy that really understood how to get the best out of his players and I think he knew I had more to give."
Kent is the first former Giant to have his jersey number retired by the team since Will Clark in 2022.
