Jalen Brunson Injured, Latest Updates on Knicks Star's Ankle and Status for Warriors Game

Joseph ZuckerJan 15, 2026

The New York Knicks announced guard Jalen Brunson is day-to-day with a sprained right ankle.

The injury will force him to miss Thursday's matchup with the Golden State Warriors. The Knicks' next game is Saturday against the Phoenix Suns.

Brunson went down in the first quarter of New York's 112-101 loss to the Sacramento Kings. The team initially deemed him questionable to return before ruling him out altogether.

The two-time All-Star's value to the Knicks was evident by the fact they lost by double digits to an opponent that had been 10-30 going in.

Mikal Bridges led the team in scoring with 19 points but shot 6-of-20 from the field. Karl-Anthony Towns went 5-of-14 despite only attempting one three-pointer. OG Anunoby missed all six of his long-range opportunities.

Brunson's 28.2 points per game are the eighth-highest in the NBA, yet his playmaking might be what New York misses the most with him out.

Hart is second on the team in assists (5.1) and followed by Bridges and Towns. None of the three is a natural facilitator that Brunson is. He's the spark that makes the entire offense work.

The good news for head coach Mike Brown is that Brunson's injury doesn't appear to be too serious. For now, he'll have to lean on Miles McBride and Tyler Kolek to shoulder the load at point guard.
