Cooper Flagg Suffers Foot Injury, Latest Updates on Mavs Star Ahead of All-Star Weekend
Dallas Mavericks star rookie Cooper Flagg is dealing with a foot injury.
The Mavs announced Wednesday that Flagg underwent and MRI that revealed a left midfoot sprain that he suffered in Tuesday's game against the Phoenix Suns. Dallas announced Flagg will miss Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers and won't partake in Rising Stars Game on Friday.
The injury marks Flagg's second over the past month.
Flagg exited the Mavs' loss to the Denver Nuggets on Jan. 14 after suffering a sprained right ankle in the first half. He had also injured the same ankle in a win over the Brooklyn Nets two nights earlier.
"He stepped on someone's foot. Last game, he twisted his ankle, too. We decided to hold him (out) for the second half," Mavs head coach Jason Kidd said, adding that he wasn't sure of Flagg's status for Thursday night's game against the Utah Jazz.
Flagg overcame a slow start to the season and has shown flashes of superstardom in recent weeks. The 2025 No. 1 pick is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists, and he was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month in November and December.
Despite Flagg rounding into form, the Mavs have still struggled to find consistency and rank 12th in the West with a 19-34 record. Star point guard Kyrie Irving is also still making his way back from a torn ACL suffered last March.
Losing Flagg would be another blow to the Mavs' lineup, and multiple players will have to step up in his absence to keep the team afloat.
