Michael Jordan's NBA on NBC Broadcast Plans for Remainder of Season Discussed by Mike Tirico

Adam WellsJan 15, 2026

Michael Jordan's role as part of the NBA on NBC broadcast is unlikely to change for the rest of this season.

Appearing on the SI Media with Jimmy Traina podcast (h/t Brandon Contes of Awful Announcing), NBC's lead play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico said there is "nothing scheduled as of now" with Jordan beyond the one long-form interview that has been sprinkled into the network's coverage throughout the season.

"Nothing scheduled as of now that I know of, but it is a possibility," Tirico said. "I hope there's something else after it. Michael was awesome."

NBC announced last May that Jordan was joining the network as a special contributor as part of its NBA coverage. His first appearance was on opening night in a pretaped segment titled "MJ: Insights to Excellence" that featured Jordan being interviewed by Tirico.

It became apparent after the first two segments aired on Oct. 21 and 28, with both Jordan and Tirico wearing the same attire in each, that the clips were taken from the same interview, leading to speculation that Jordan's role was going to be very limited.

Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports reported on Nov. 3 that Jordan "could agree to two or three more interviews" as part of the Insights to Excellence series.

Tirico confirmed to Traina that he spent two days with Jordan before the NBA season tipped off, with the second day being when they recorded the interview that lasted around one hour and 45 minutes.

Jordan's relationship with NBC came as the network resumed its media rights partnership with the NBA for the first time in 23 years. NBC Sports will broadcast a total of 100 games during the regular season, as well as the All-Star Game.
