LeBron James, Luka Doncic's Historic Night Praised by NBA Fans After Lakers' Blowout Win vs. Hawks

Adam WellsJan 14, 2026

The Los Angeles Lakers' superstar duo of LeBron James and Luka Dončić led the way in Tuesday's 141-116 win over the Atlanta Hawks to snap their three-game losing streak.

Playing the second night of a back-to-back for the first time all season, James nearly put up a triple-double with 31 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds in 33 minutes. Dončić added 27 points, 12 assists and five rebounds in 33 minutes.

This marks the second time in three games that James has finished one rebound shy of a triple-double. He did the bulk of his scoring against the Hawks in the second half, finishing with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting.

James and Dončić made history in the process, joining Elgin Baylor and Jerry West as the only Lakers teammates to have multiple games with at least 25 points, 10 assists and five rebounds in the same game.

Given the recent rough patch for the Lakers, James and Dončić rising to the moment to lift them to a much-needed win was celebrated by fans afteward.

The Lakers put up 81 on the Atlanta defense in the first half. Each of their five starters scored at least 16 points in the game.

This game was the formula that the Lakers need to follow to sustain their success for the remainder of the season. They got a great offensive output and did enough defensively to keep a good Atlanta group down.

Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu combined to shoot 8-of-25 from the field. The Hawks as a team shot just 28.3 percent from three on 43 attempts.

The win gives the Lakers some positive momentum to build on as they prepare for Thursday's game against the Charlotte Hornets. Their 24-14 record is fifth in the West, but they are only two games behind the San Antonio Spurs for the No. 2 spot.
