NBA Insiders Say Warriors 'Can't Wait to Get' Jonathan Kuminga Out, Trade Value at 'All-Time Low'

Andrew PetersJan 12, 2026

The Golden State Warriors reportedly have hit their limit with Jonathan Kuminga.

According to The Athletic's Tony Jones, the Warriors "can't wait to get him out of the building." Jones added that Kuminga "doesn't want to be a role player," but rather "a star," noting that "his self-awareness in that sense is nonexistent."

"Kerr wants him to put his athleticism to use and play off the gravity Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler create," Jones wrote. "Attack gaps. Move without the ball. Finish at the rim. Most importantly, defend with energy. He doesn't do those things, and that's fine. What he needs to understand is that the Warriors wouldn't stop him from doing those things if he proved he could do them. He hasn't, and he has not come to grips with that."

While the Warriors may be ready to move on from Kuminga, that might be a difficult task. Nick Friedell of The Athletic noted that his trade value is "at an all-time low" with the deadline less than a month away.

Kuminga, 23, is averaging 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game this year, but he hasn't played since Dec. 18 despite being healthy. It's clear he and the Warriors are on their way to a divorce, but whether Golden State will be able to make a deal for him ahead of the deadline remains to be seen.
