NBA Trade Rumors Update Nets' Deadline Plans for Michael Porter Jr. Amid Ja Morant, Grizzlies Buzz

Andrew PetersJan 11, 2026

Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. has found himself in trade rumors ahead of the deadline, but it appears he may be staying put, at least for the remainder of the season.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported Sunday that he's "hearing pushback about the Nets' willingness to part ways with Porter before the offseason."

That report from Stein comes after The Athletic's Jon Hollinger called Brooklyn a "dark horse" to land Memphis Grizzlies' Ja Morant at the deadline. Hollinger noted that one league source said Porter "is a lack to move by the deadline."

It's easy to see why Porter may be viewed as a trade candidate ahead of the deadline. The Nets are currently 13th in the East at 11-24 with no signs of a turnaround coming.

Porter has been electric since being traded from the Denver Nuggets, as he's putting up 25.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game with his new squad. Considering Porter's strong play and Brooklyn's struggles, moving on from Porter would seem in the cards for the Nets.

Porter would likely draw interest from around the league should Brooklyn put him on the trade block, but it appears the Nets aren't ready to part ways just yet.
