Dennis Schroder Reacts to Suspension, 'Attempting 👀🤣' to Confront Lakers' Luka Doncic
Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schröder seems to think the idea he was only "attempting" to confront another player following his team's Dec. 28 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers is rather amusing.
At least based on his response to a post from ESPN's Shams Charania on Instagram:
The NBA announced Saturday that Schröder was suspended for three games "for confronting and attempting to strike another player" after the loss to the Lakers. NBA insider Chris Haynes reported the player he confronted was Lakers star Luka Dončić.
According to the NBA's announcement, Schröder "sought out the player in an arena hallway and initiated the confrontation" approximately 40 minutes after the contest.
ESPN's Anthony Slater provided more details, noting the two guards were chirping each other during the game. One such moment happened during a timeout when Dončić told Schröder he "should've signed that contract" in a reference to the four-year, $82 million extension the Kings guard previously declined from the Lakers.
He is now playing on a three-year, $44.4 million deal that expires after the 2027-28 campaign.
"Forty minutes after the buzzer, Schröder went after Doncic, telling Dončić that he can't call him a 'b----' on the court and pretend everything is fine off the court," Slater wrote while also reporting Lakers center Deandre Ayton tried to break up the incident by dragging Schröder away as Dončić exited.
The three-game suspension means Schröder will not be on the court when the Lakers and Kings face each other Monday.
The next time he faces Dončić could be on March 1, when he will surely receive an interesting reaction and welcome from Lakers fans.
As for the Dec. 28 game, the trash talking didn't stop Dončić from torching the Kings for 34 points, seven assists and five rebounds in a blowout victory. LeBron James added 24 points, while Nick Smith Jr. provided a spark off the bench with 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 5-of-10 shooting from deep.
Schröder was also solid off the bench with 11 points and seven assists off the bench for the Kings, but his actions after the game made far more headlines.
They also led to his suspension.
