New Trae Young Landing Spots Reportedly 'Suggested' by Star's Camp amid Trade Rumors

Doric SamJan 7, 2026

As the Atlanta Hawks and star point guard Trae Young get closer to the Feb. 5 trade deadline, his representatives reportedly provided some input on where he should end up.

NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that Young's camp "suggested" the Minnesota Timberwolves and Brooklyn Nets to the Hawks as "two attractive potential destinations."

Unfortunately for Young, Fischer added that neither the Timberwolves nor the Nets are "in pursuit" of the four-time All-Star.

In Minnesota's case, Fischer explained that it's unlikely that the team would want to sacrifice too many assets to acquire a player of Young's caliber. The Timberwolves are believed to be searching for more playmaking, but they don't seem to be in the running for any of the big-name players expected to be available at the deadline.

"How many key players would the Wolves have to sacrifice to match Young's salary? Answer: Too many," Fischer stated. "Ditto for [Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant] or [Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball] … especially during the season. The Wolves have prized depth ever since they made the difficult decision to part with Karl-Anthony Towns to turn that contract into Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. I've been told pretty emphatically this week that Minnesota is not only uninvolved on the Young front but also isn't chasing any high-priced guards."

Young reportedly has also been linked to the Milwaukee Bucks, but they're facing the same issue as the Timberwolves. Fischer added that the 27-year-old is a player that Bucks officials "have at least contemplated internally as part of their well-documented quest to try get Giannis Antetokounmpo more difference-making help, but matching Young's $46 million salary this season would almost certainly require parting with too many key members of Milwaukee's current rotation to rationalize such a move."

It sounds like Young will have to be content with wherever he winds up, as all signs point to his time in Atlanta coming to an end within the next few weeks.
