Myles Garrett Reflects on NFL Sack Record, Discusses Plans to Celebrate Historic Feat
Myles Garrett made history on Sunday as the Cleveland Browns' star pass rusher set the NFL record for the most sacks in a single season.
After Garrett recorded his 23rd sack, he told reporters how he plans to celebrate.
"Probably with some pizza and ice cream," Garrett said.
Before celebrating with pizza and ice cream, Garrett got to celebrate alongside his teammates.
"It was special," Garrett said. "You know, I've given everything to them, they give me their very best every day. I'm so grateful and so glad to have them as teammates. It's a privilege to be with these guys, to go to work with these guys, to bleed, to sweat and to cry with these guys."
Garrett also said the play in which he recorded the sack was "probably the best get-off I ever had."
After the game, he celebrated with his mom:
While Garrett was on pace to get the sack record for much of the season, it was in jeopardy over the last few weeks, especially after he didn't record a sack in last week's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He even had a dream about not getting the record before Sunday's game against the Bengals.
"I had a dream that I didn't get it," Garrett said. So I was like, well s--t, we've gotta deny fate or whatever it is. We gotta make it happen. So I just went into it with the utmost confidence in myself and my preparation and in my guys."
While Sunday's game had little meaning for either team since both had already been eliminated from the playoffs, Garrett said Cincinnati didn't just gift him a sack.
"It was everything I expected," Garrett said. "It was so tough. I knew they were going to make it difficult, but s--t, I don't think I saw more than three singles on a real drop back the whole game. I just knew that, if I did, I'd have to make that moment count. And the feeling couldn't be better."
The 2025 campaign was another forgettable one for the Browns, who finished 5-12, but that doesn't take away from Garrett's dominant season. Garrett now owns a piece of NFL history, and the 30-year-old will more than likely take home his second Defensive Player of the Year award.
