Anthony Davis Trade Rumors on Warriors Links, Potential of Deal Before 2026 Deadline

Paul KasabianDec 31, 2025

Dallas Mavericks big man Anthony Davis has been linked to the Golden State Warriors via trade, but it appears "unlikely" that a move will happen, per Sam Amick of The Athletic, who noted that the Dubs wouldn't be interested in a Jimmy Butler-for-Davis deal even though it works financially.

"A Butler-for-Davis swap works financially, as the Warriors forward also makes $54.1 million this season, but Golden State has shown no interest in making such a move. While team sources say the Warriors have not completely closed the door on the prospect of doing a Davis deal, it appears unlikely. What's more, it should be noted that the Mavericks called Golden State about the Davis possibility — and not the other way around."

The 17-16 Warriors are sitting eighth in the Western Conference. Rumors and speculation have surrounded Golden State with the team struggling just to make the playoffs at this point.

However, per Amick, the Warriors are "staunchly against the notion of trading either Draymond Green or Jimmy Butler." As Amick also wrote, that "creates quite a predicament when you're trying to match salaries of high-level players."

If that's the case, then it's possible the team as constructed, by-and-large, will be the one the Warriors ride with for the remainder of the season, as Amick noted.

The exception to that is Jonathan Kuminga, who can't be traded until Jan. 15 after the then-restricted free agent signed a two-year contract with the team last offseason. However, Amick wrote that the Kuminga is "widely expected to be dealt before the deadline," which is on Feb. 5 this season.

Davis has fared well when healthy this season, averaging 20.5 points on 52.1 percent shooting, 10.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. Unfortunately, he's been held to 16 games due to injury.

AD could be a great fit on a Warrior team that clearly needs some help, but it doesn't appear that he'll be heading to the Bay Area based on the latest report.
