Josh Giddey Injury Update, Latest News on Bulls PG's Hamstring and Timeline to Return
Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey will be sidelined at least two weeks with a left hamstring strain, the team announced Wednesday.
Coby White will also be out at least one week with right calf tightness, the Bulls added.
The news comes after ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday that Giddey would "miss at least a few weeks" after suffering a left hamstring strain.
The 23-year-old Giddey, who signed a fully guaranteed four-year, $100 million contract with the Bulls last offseason, has averaged 19.2 points on 46.6 percent shooting (38.6 percent from three), 9.0 assists and 8.9 rebounds in 30 games.
The injury happened early in the third quarter of the Bulls' 136-101 home loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday. Giddey made a pass right after the third quarter began, and he was then seen grabbing at his left hamstring after making a pass to center Nikola Vučević for a three-pointer.
He was then in clear discomfort during Minnesota's first possession of the third quarter as he limped around the Bulls' side of the court.
Bulls head coach Billy Donovan then called timeout after Chicago grabbed a defensive rebound. Giddey limped off the court with head athletic trainer Todd Campbell by his side and did not return. Ayo Dosunmu replaced Giddey in the lineup.
The rest of the game went about as poorly as possible for Chicago, as Minnesota outscored the Bulls 81-48.
For the fourth straight year, the Bulls are hanging at or below .500 and in the play-in tournament picture. Chicago recently went on a five-game win streak to get back to .500 at 15-15, but a two-game losing streak has put the Bulls at 15-17.
Losing Giddey for a few weeks is a tough blow for the Bulls, who have a packed schedule with seven games from Dec. 31-Jan. 10. They play 10 more for the remainder of January after that date.
The Bulls are also without guard Coby White, who played just seven minutes against Minnesota before being ruled out with left calf tightness. He will miss his team's next game on Wednesday vs. the New Orleans Pelicans at 7 p.m. ET.
Dosunmu and fellow Bulls guard Tre Jones should see more action in Giddey and White's absences.
