Warriors' Jimmy Butler Gives Funny Quote on Heated Draymond Green-Steve Kerr Exchange

Paul KasabianDec 25, 2025

On Monday night, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and forward Draymond Green had a heated exchange during a 120-97 win over the Orlando Magic.

Three days later, the 16-15 Warriors won their third straight game, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 126-116.

After that contest, Warriors star Jimmy Butler gave his thoughts on the interaction.

Maybe the Warriors needed to have a fire lit under them, and perhaps that was the spark. Golden State has scuffled through a tough season after the end of the last one showed so much promise following the Warriors' trade with the Heat for Butler.

Golden State went 23-7 with Butler on the court last year and then soon beat the No. 2 seed Houston Rockets in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

The Warriors even took the first game of the second round against the No. 6 seed Minnesota Timberwolves, but Stephen Curry suffered a hamstring strain in Game 1 and missed the remainder of the playoffs. Without Curry, the Warriors dropped four straight games to Minnesota.

There was certainly hope the Warriors could build off that positive momentum from the back half of the 2024-25 season into next year. However, that hasn't completely transpired as of yet. Golden State's offense has been a problem all year, with Curry and Butler largely carrying the scoring load.

The Warriors' defense has been very good overall (No. 3 in defensive rating, per Basketball-Reference). However, Golden State still has some things to figure out.

It does seem as though the Warriors are on the right track now after three straight wins, but the question is whether Golden State can sustain this success. It's been an up-and-down year for Golden State so far, with the team largely teetering around .500.

However, the Warriors have a chance here to finally get going. A three-game Eastern Conference road trip is up next, with the Toronto Raptors first up on Sunday.
