Betting Warning! Steph Curry Admits He's 'Traditionally Not Played Great on Christmas'

Joseph ZuckerDec 23, 2025

While acknowledging Christmas Day is a massive showcase for the NBA's best players, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry doesn't have a lot of fond recollections from the holiday.

"I don't have a favorite," he told ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk when asked about his favorite memories from Christmas Day games. "I have traditionally not played great on Christmas Day, so bringing up great memories."

Youngmisuk pointed out the two-time NBA MVP shot 29.3 percent through his first eight Christmas contests.

Curry's fortunes did at least improve last year. He had 38 points and six assists in Golden State's 115-113 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 11-time All-Star's past experiences on Dec. 25 haven't colored how he views the occasion.

"It's a blessing because you understand being one of the 10 teams that play means you're marketable," he said to Youngmisuk. "The experience of playing in the game is fun. … Before the in-season tournament, that was the NBA's biggest moment before the turn of the calendar year. Definitely felt like a different energy around it."

Curry's past struggles on Christmas are partly a coincidence and reflective of the fact the NBA tends to match up playoff contenders against one another. In the case of Steph, his rivalry with LeBron James has taken center stage whether James was on the Lakers or Cleveland Cavaliers.

This year could offer Golden State a bit of a reprieve.

The Mavericks are 11-19 and rank 20th in net rating (minus-3.5), per NBA.com. The Warriors have a great opportunity to extend their winning streak to three games and get back over .500.
