Lakers Trade Rumors Updated by NBA Insider, Potential Wing Target Revealed

Doric SamDec 18, 2025

The Los Angeles Lakers have gotten off to a strong start this season, but they reportedly still feel that there's room for improvement.

According to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, league sources said that the Lakers "are monitoring the trade market for a defensive wing upgrade." Scotto went on to add that New Orleans Pelicans forward Herb Jones is among the "3-and-D wing upgrades on their wish list."

The Lakers lead the Pacific Division with an 18-7 record while also ranking third in the Western Conference. Still, their defense could use some work, as they rank 17th in the NBA with 116.7 points allowed per game.

Jones has appeared in 19 games for the 5-22 Pelicans and is averaging 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals. He brings a "glue guy" element to the lineup, but New Orleans could be a big seller at the trade deadline amid this season's struggles.

The Lakers are hoping to maximize their window with the star duo of LeBron James and Luka Doncic, so it makes sense that they would be aggressive in trying to fill any holes on their roster. Adding Jones to the mix could further solidify Los Angeles as a potential title contender this year.

The Lakers will be on the road to face the Utah Jazz (10-15) on Thursday night.
