Latest Anthony Davis Trade Rumors As Mavs Evaluate Star's Fit With Cooper Flagg
Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis has been rumored to be a prime trade candidate this season, but it sounds like the team is considering keeping him in the fold.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, league sources said, "The Mavericks are currently evaluating how Davis returns to form, develops chemistry with [2025 No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg], and how much he impacts the team's chances at winning."
The Mavs rank 12th in the Western Conference with a 10-17 record. Davis has appeared in 11 games this season after missing time with a calf strain, and the team is 6-5 when he's in the lineup.
Dallas entered the season with optimism before things quickly went awry. General manager Nico Harrison, who was responsible for acquiring Davis in last season's trade that sent star guard Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, was fired after the team's 3-8 start.
Still, there appears to be renewed hope for a bright future, as Flagg has overcome his early rookie struggles as he continues his rapid development. The 18-year-old dropped a career-high 42 points in Monday's overtime loss to the Utah Jazz.
Keeping Davis would give the Mavs a strong core of star players to build around while Flagg continues his ascent. Star point guard Kyrie Irving will return from his torn ACL later this season, so it could be best for Dallas to see what it has when all three stars are on the court together.
The Mavs will face a tough test when they host the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons (21-5) on Thursday night.
