Jalen Brunson Named MVP for 2025 NBA Cup Bracket as Knicks Win Championship vs. Spurs
Jalen Brunson was named MVP of the 2025 NBA Cup after the New York Knicks took down the San Antonio Spurs by the final score of 124-113 in the championship game on Tuesday night.
Brunson finished with 25 points, eight assists, four rebounds and two blocks while shooting 11-of-27 from the field in the victory over San Antonio.
The two-time All-Star averaged 34.8 points and 5.4 assists per game on 55.8/50.0/67.6 shooting splits throughout New York's NBA Cup contests.
Tuesday's final was a hard-fought contest, as neither team led by more than seven points throughout the first two quarters of the game.
The Spurs entered halftime with a 61-59 edge and finally started to gain some separation in the third quarter, opening the period on a quick 8-2 run.
San Antonio pushed its lead to 11 points with just under six minutes remaining in the third, but New York stayed within striking distance by outscoring the Spurs 18-12 to close the quarter.
The Knicks jumped in front early in the fourth and didn't relinquish the lead for the remainder of the contest. San Antonio pulled to within three points multiple times towards the end of regulation, but ultimately couldn't close the gap.
New York was able to secure the victory largely due to contributions from its bench, as Jordan Clarkson and Tyler Kolek combined to score 29 points on 11-of-24 shooting. The Knicks also grabbed 23 offensive rebounds as a team.
For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama finished with 18 points and six rebounds while shooting 7-of-17 from the field. He played just 25 minutes off the bench as he continues to work his way back from a calf strain.
In the end, Brunson and the Knicks were too much for San Antonio to overcome.
The reigning Clutch Player of the Year has remained New York's offensive engine during his 2025-26 campaign, averaging 28.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting 48.7 percent from the field on the season.
With the NBA Cup now in the rearview mirror, Brunson will be taking home some more hardware.
