Red Sox Among Only Teams Yet to Sign FA to MLB Contract This Offseason, Latest Rumors
That restless feeling coming from the New England area is Boston Red Sox fans begging the front office to do something now that almost every other MLB team has signed at least one free agent to a big-league deal.
After the Washington Nationals agreed to terms with Foster Griffin on Tuesday, the Red Sox are now in company with the Colorado Rockies as the only clubs that have yet to hand out an MLB deal in free agency.
The Rockies' silence in the offseason is hardly a surprise. They are coming off a franchise-record 119-loss season in 2025 and have lost at least 100 games in three consecutive seasons.

It's going to take work for the Rockies new regime, led by president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes, to be an attractive landing spot for free agents.
Even though the Red Sox haven't actually signed a player, they have been connected to several high-profile free agents.
At the winter meetings last week, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported a reunion with Alex Bregman appears to be Boston's No. 1 priority. Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reported on Sunday that the Red Sox are among the group of teams pursuing Michael King.
The Red Sox did make a notable trade a few weeks ago when they acquired Sonny Gray from the St. Louis Cardinals.
There's an argument that the Red Sox don't actually need to do that much to become a World Series contender. Their 2025 season might have looked a lot different if Roman Anthony's rookie year didn't end on Sept. 2 due to an oblique strain.
They also lost Triston Casas in May due to a ruptured patellar tendon. He hit .256/.357/.480 in the previous two seasons combined.
A rebound year from their No. 2 prospect Kristian Campbell, who was demoted to Triple-A in June after signing an eight-year, $60 million extension early in the season, would also go a long way toward helping the lineup.
If the Red Sox can bring back Bregman with that trio playing up to expectations in 2026, everything will be fine in Boston because the pitching staff looks good on paper.
Even with all of the issues the Red Sox had in 2025, they won 89 games and made the postseason. It ended on a dour note with a loss to the New York Yankees in the wild card round.
