Josh Hart Praises Wemby Ahead of NBA Cup Final, 'Can Shoot the Hell Out Of' The Ball
The New York Knicks will face the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Cup final Tuesday, which means a rematch from last season's Christmas Day matchup.
And Josh Hart remembers Victor Wembanyama's performance in that one.
"He can shoot the hell out of the basketball, that's what I learned," he said Monday during an interview with ESPN (five-minute mark) when asked what the Knicks learned facing Wembanyama on Christmas last season. "He's multifaceted."
The Spurs star finished with 42 points, 18 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and one steal while draining six shots from beyond the arc in New York's 117-114 victory last Christmas. Stuffing the stat sheet and doing a little bit of everything underscored just how much of a mismatch the 7'4" playmaker can be every time he steps on the floor.
Unfortunately for San Antonio, he has missed significant time this season with a calf injury.
He returned to the lineup and came off the bench in the NBA Cup semifinals win over the Oklahoma City Thunder and still finished with 22 points in 21 minutes.
If the Knicks are going to take home the NBA Cup title, they are going to have to figure out a way to at least contain Wembanyama in Tuesday's game.
Both teams enter the matchup with plenty of momentum, as San Antonio just handed the reigning-champion Thunder just their second loss of the season. As for New York, it is 9-1 in its previous 10 games and is riding a five-game winning streak.
If it can figure out a way to slow down Wembanyama, it will add another win to the streak and take home the NBA Cup championship in the process.
