Luka, Lakers Beat Suns as NBA Fans React to LeBron James-Dillon Brooks Altercation
Well that was a weird game.
The Los Angeles Lakers got Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde performances from both Luka Dončić and LeBron James, blew a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter and... still somehow beat the Phoenix Suns, 116-114.
The good from Dončić on Sunday night was his 29 points and six assists, with much of his work coming from the free-throw line (13-of-14). But it was hardly an efficient effort, as he shot just 7-of-25 from the field (2-of-14 from three), finished with six turnovers and didn't offer much resistance on defense.
LeBron James added 26 points on the night but also had his struggles, finishing with eight turnovers.
It was an odd showing from the team's two superstars, though a win's a win.
Perhaps the bigger story on the night was Dillon Brooks' ejection in the fourth quarter with just 12.2 seconds remaining, chesting up James after a three which led to his second technical on the night.
James missed the ensuing technical free throw, though he would go on to hit two of three free throws on the team's next possession to help seal the win.
Fans and pundits had plenty of reaction to Brooks' untimely ejection:
Brooks and James have a history—and had an altercation earlier in the game—so it wasn't shocking to see the two cross paths yet again.
It was an odd game all the way around. The Lakers held a 20-point lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter but let the Suns worm their way back into the contest, nearly blowing it. Brooks had 11 points alone in that effort before getting himself booted.
Devin Booker finished with 27 points, seven assists and six rebounds in the loss.
