Danilo Gallinari has announced his retirement from professional basketball after 20 seasons, including 16 in the NBA.

The 37-year-old Gallinari entered the NBA after the New York Knicks selected him with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2008 draft.

He averaged 14.9 points and 4.7 rebounds over his career with the Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks.

Numerous fans praised Gallinari upon news of his retirement.

Gallinari certainly had his fair share of bright moments over an impressive two-decade career.

Of note, he was a key asset for the early-2010s Nuggets after they brought him to Denver in the blockbuster Carmelo Anthony trade. Gallinari helped guide Denver to three straight playoff appearances from 2011-2013.

Gallinari also averaged a career-high 19.8 points per game for the 2018-19 Clippers. He also enjoyed a three-season stretch from 2018-19 to 2020-21 where he hit over 40 percent of his three-pointers each year.

In addition, he played a key role off the bench for the 2020-21 Hawks, who made an impressive run to the Eastern Conference Finals. That marked just the second time since 1970 in which the team made it that far in the postseason. Gallinari scored 13.3 PPG for that squad.

Impressively, Gallinari overcame adversity in his career when he suffered a torn left ACL that sidelined him for the entire 2013-14 campaign. Still, he managed to play pro ball for a decade-plus more.

Unfortunately, Gallinari also missed all of 2022-23 with the Boston Celtics, who signed him in July 2022, with a torn left ACL as well.

Gallinari last played in the NBA in 2023-24, suiting up for 49 total games for the Pistons, Bucks and Wizards.

He last played professional basketball for Vaqueros de Bayamón of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional in Puerto Rico. Gallinari led his team to a championship and even won Finals MVP honors.

Gallinari most recently played for Italy at EuroBasket 2025. Italy finished second in its group but lost in the first round of the knockout stage to Slovenia.

In the end, Gallinari enjoyed a great run, and now he'll enjoy retirement after 20 years in the professional spotlight.
