Jalen Brunson, Knicks Excite Fans with Win as Giannis' Return Can't Halt Losing Streak
Jalen Brunson dropped 37 points as the New York Knicks beat the Milwaukee Bucks 118-109, handing Milwaukee its seventh straight loss despite Giannis Antetokounmpo's return from injury.
Antetokounmpo had missed Milwaukee's last four games with a groin strain suffered during a 119-106 loss to Cleveland on Nov. 17. In his absence, the Bucks went 0-4 amid their skid.
Meanwhile, Brunson had a standout game, adding five assists and a "cherry on top" steal while shooting an efficient 12-of-21 from the field to set the tone for New York, which improved to 12-6, 9-1 at home and 3-1 in NBA Cup Group Play to advance to the knockout rounds, clinching East Group C.
Karl-Anthony Towns finished with nine points, 10 rebounds and four assists, while Miles McBride, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart all scored in double figures.
Fans reacted to Brunson and the Knicks big win on Friday against Antetokounmpo and the Bucks.
Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee with 30 points, eight assists and 15 rebounds as the Bucks fell to 8-12 and dropped to 2-2 in NBA Cup play and were eliminated from NBA Cup Play.
Milwaukee took a late first-half lead on a Kyle Kuzma three-pointer to go up 62-61 at the break. Antetokounmpo had 16 at halftime, while Brunson led the Knicks with 15.
New York extended the lead to 13 early in the fourth quarter, but Milwaukee fought back to keep it close midway through the frame. Brunson helped carry the Knicks to the win with a late and-one that pushed the lead to seven and opened the door for the victory.
The Knicks will host the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.
