Tyrese Maxey, 76ers Disappoint NBA Fans in Loss to Magic amid Embiid, George Injuries
With a lengthy injury report, Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers were blown out at home 144-103 by the Orlando Magic on Tuesday.
The 76ers were without Paul George and Joel Embiid most notably, along with VJ Edgecombe and Kelly Oubre Jr. That left Maxey to shoulder the load, finishing with 20 points and four assists in the loss.
With the Group Play win, the Magic remained a perfect 3-0 in East Group B and are on track to advance to the next round. Philadelphia fell to 0-3 in group play and were eliminated from Cup knockout contention.
The 76ers dropped to 9-8 on the season and 5-5 at home, drawing plenty of frustration from fans.
Paolo Banchero and Moritz Wagner were sidelined for Orlando, but the Magic were powered by Anthony Black's career high of 31 points and Franz Wagner's 21 points and five rebounds as they improved to 11-8.
Orlando entered halftime with a dominant 26-point lead after outscoring Philadelphia 51-25 in the second quarter, led by 27 points from Black and 11 from Wagner. Maxey had 15 at the break.
The Magic maintained control throughout the second half to cruise to a 41-point win.
Philadelphia will hit the road to face the Brooklyn Nets on Friday before opening a three-game homestand.
