Are Lakers Targeting PG in Trade? Latest Rumors After LeBron James' Return from Injury
Already boasting two of the best ballhandlers in the NBA on their roster now that LeBron James has returned, the Los Angeles Lakers aren't in the market for another point guard to play behind Luka Dončić.
On the latest episode of his YouTube show (starts at 1:07:10 mark), NBA insider Jovan Buha stated "no" when asked if the Lakers were interested in acquiring a point guard.
Buha did explain the Lakers might look to add a scoring guard to put on the floor in the minutes when Dončić isn't playing, but the bigger priority would likely be to find wing help or another backup big.
The Lakers are thin at point guard behind Dončić. Gabe Vincent, who returned on Tuesday against the Utah Jazz following an 11-game absence due to an ankle sprain, is off to a slow start with a 31.3 field-goal percentage in four appearances.
Austin Reaves has already shown he is capable of running the offense when Dončić is out. He averaged 40.0 points and 10.0 assists in three games from Oct. 26-29 that Dončić missed due to a finger sprain and leg contusion.
James' return to the lineup on Tuesday added another playmaker to the mix. He only scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, but dished out 12 assists in a 140-126 win over Utah.
Defense is the bigger issues for the Lakers right now. They rank 17th overall with a 114.1 rating through 15 games. They are currently the only team with at least 10 wins ranked in the bottom half of the NBA in defensive rating.
