Who Makes Decisions for Mavs After Nico Harrison Firing? Latest Rumors on Front Office
The Dallas Mavericks' decision-making process following the firing of former general manager Nico Harrison has reportedly gained some more clarity.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont isn't in a rush to hire a new general manager and prefers the team's current committee approach.
Minority owner and former team governor Mark Cuban is "essentially a consultant" now, per Stein. Matt Riccardi and Michael Finley are operating as Dallas' interim co-general managers, while head coach Jason Kidd is also being "leaned on for input."
Stein noted that Dumont has the deciding vote in front office moves and is more involved than "he ever was previously," though.
Harrison was fired on Nov. 11 after the Mavericks opened the 2025-26 season with a 3-8 record.
His tenure with the organization started to come under fire following the shocking decision to trade superstar Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster swap on Feb. 2.
While Riccardi and Finley were announced as Dallas' co-interim general managers immediately after Harrison's departure, questions persisted regarding the rest of the team's front office.
There were rumors that Cuban was more involved with the Mavericks and had been in "frequent dialogue" with Dumont in recent months, but Cuban eventually called out the accuracy of the report.
While standout rookie Cooper Flagg already appears to be a long-term building block for Dallas, its front office will have several decisions to make regarding the rest of the roster.
Anthony Davis' future with the Mavericks is reportedly uncertain with the trade deadline gradually approaching, while Kyrie Irving's potential involvement in a trade has also been speculated.
