Will Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis Be Traded By Mavs? NBA Insider Gives Latest Update

Andrew PetersNov 20, 2025

After the Dallas Mavericks' disastrous start to the 2025-26 season, questions loom about the future of the team's stars.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported Thursday that the Mavs "still intend to field any trade interest" that arises around Anthony Davis. However, Stein added that Dallas is "not encouraging trade inquiries for Kyrie Irving."

Though Irving is sidelined with a torn ACL, he is "already vibing nicely with prized rookie Cooper Flagg in practice settings," according to Stein, and Dallas wants to keep that duo together for now.

Davis' future has been more of a question mark early on this year.

ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported Wednesday that Dallas is expected to explore the market for Davis ahead of the trade deadline, but minority owner Marc Cuban contradicted that report, shutting down trade speculation about Davis.

"We won't. We want to try to win," Cuban said Wednesday in an email when asked about finding a trade for Davis, per The Athletic's Joe Vardon.

It's reasonable to think the Mavericks would at least look into trades for Davis, given their current situation. At 4-12, Dallas appears to be far from a contender this year, and the firing of general manager Nico Harrison earlier this month indicates the team is looking to reset.

What's more, the Mavs do not own their first-round draft picks in 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030, so they could try to gain back some draft capital by offloading Davis.

Davis could be a bit tricky to move, though, and Dallas certainly won't be able to get back what it lost by trading Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in return for Davis in February.

Injuries have continued to plague Davis, as he's appeared in just 14 of 48 regular-season games since joining the Mavs. He's also on a pricey contract, earning $54.1 million this year, $58.5 million next year and $62.8 million with a player option in 2027-28.

If the market isn't robust for Davis, it could be worth seeing how a trio of him, Irving and Flagg operates when fully healthy.
