Draymond Green Reportedly Warned by NBA For Fan Interaction After 'Angel Reese' Chant
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green has never been one to back down from confrontation, but he's in a bit of hot water over his most recent incident.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Tuesday that the NBA issued a warning to Green following his face-to-face interaction with a fan who was chanting "Angel Reese!" toward him during Sunday night's road game against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Green confronted a fan, who identified himself as Sam Green, 35, of New Orleans, during the second quarter of Sunday's game after being called for a foul on Pelicans forward Herbert Jones. Game officials and stadium ushers eventually separated the two of them, and the four-time NBA champion explained what sparked the situation after the Warriors earned a 124-106 win.
"He just kept calling me a woman," Draymond Green told reporters after the game, clarifying later that the fan was calling him "a woman's name."
"It was a good joke at first, but you can't keep calling me a woman. I got four kids, one on the way. You can't keep calling me a woman."
Sam Green was given a warning by ushers but was allowed to remain in his front-row seat.
"I wasn't using profanity, and for him to walk 12 feet off the court to come and get in my face like that, it was a little unnerving," he said.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said he didn't have a problem with Green's conversation with the fan, but he called out the slow response time of the security staff.
"As long as it doesn't escalate, it's fine [for a player] to go over and have a discussion," Kerr said. "It would have been nice if security had gotten there a little bit earlier."
The Warriors (9-6) will continue their road trip when they visit the Orlando Magic (7-7) on Tuesday night.
