Austin Goosby Commits to Texas, Scouting Report, What Experts Say About 5-Star Guard

Scott PolacekNov 17, 2025

The Texas Longhorns men's basketball team earned a significant win on the recruiting trail Monday.

ESPN's Jeff Borzello and Paul Biancardi reported guard Austin Goosby committed to Texas over BYU and other contenders.

"I want to help Texas win a national championship," he said.

According to 247Sports' composite rankings, Goosby is a 5-star prospect, the No. 24 overall player and the No. 5 combo guard in the 2026 class.

This is head coach Sean Miller's first season with the Longhorns, and he is already off to an excellent start on the recruiting trail. He has the No. 6 class in the country, per 247Sports' composite rankings, and Goosby is one of the best players in the nation.

Texas has also bounced back from its season-opening loss to Duke on the court and has won three in a row.

Goosby should elevate the overall ceiling next season. There is also a family connection with this decision, as his older brother Trevor is the starting left tackle for the Longhorns football team.

"I am coming straight in to make an impact," Goosby said, per Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports. "I will do anything to win and make a run at a championship. I also want to develop into a better player and person on and off the court."

Adam Finkelstein of 247Sports provided a scouting report for the recruit and highlighted his ability to impact the game in a number of ways.

"He's a bouncy vertical athlete, a lay-up maker with his dominant right hand, has soft natural hands, and touch," Finkelstein wrote. "His best attribute though may be his feel for the game. He cuts well, passes well, and instinctively knows how to play in ways that allow him to make quick and efficient decisions with the basketball."

However Finkelstein also noted Goosby "could be a more consistent shooter" to fully live up to his potential at the college level.

If he does, he will be nearly impossible to stop for opposing defenses.
