Jose Alvarado Trade Reportedly Eyed By Pacers amid Tyrese Haliburton Injury
The Indiana Pacers reportedly are eyeing point guard help with Tyrese Haliburton out for the season.
Per NBA insider Jake Fischer, one point guard the Pacers could look into is New Orleans Pelicans' Jose Alvarado, who Indiana has had "on its radar throughout his early stretch of the season."
The Pacers are off to a disastrous 1-10 start to the season and are clearly missing Haliburton through the early going. Indiana has the 29th-ranked offensive rating and the 23rd-ranked defensive rating, according to NBA.com.
The Pacers signed Cam Payne ahead of the season, and head coach Rick Carlisle seemed to be high on the veteran following his signing.
"His speed, his long-range shooting ability is high level," Carlisle told reporters in October. "He's experienced, knows the game, has good feel, and he's a playmaker."
Ultimately, Payne didn't work out in Indiana and the team waived him less than two weeks after his signing, leaving them with a need for depth at the point guard position heading into the season.
Alvarado wouldn't replace what Haliburton brings to the Pacers offensively, but he could give the team a spark off the bench while providing some much-needed defense. Alvarado, 27, is putting up 6.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and a steal per game this season.
If the Pacers make a move for him, he would presumably come off the bench for current starter Andrew Nembhard, who is putting up 16.3 points and 6.5 assists per game this year.
The Pelicans, like Indiana, have had a rough start to the year at 2-9, so they'd likely be willing to make some trades if things don't improve soon.
