Jason Kidd's Role With Mavericks After Nico Harrison's Firing Detailed in New Report
The Dallas Mavericks parted ways with general manager Nico Harrison on Tuesday after a 3-8 start that's left the team second-to-last in the 15-team Western Conference.
Head coach Jason Kidd remains aboard, and long-time NBA insider Marc Stein provided insight on his role following the Harrison firing.
According to Stein, "Sources say that Dumont is also expected to lean heavily on Mavericks coach Jason Kidd, whose contract has been extended in each of the past two offseasons by Dumont after both the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks showed interest in trying to hire Kidd away from Dallas to coach their teams."

Every Team's Biggest Regret This Season 😞
Kidd, a Basketball Hall of Famer who played 19 NBA seasons, has been coaching Dallas since the 2021-22 season. He's fared well with Dallas overall, going 182-157 and making the playoffs twice in his four seasons. Kidd notably guided the Mavericks to the Western Conference title in 2024 as a No. 5 seed.
It's certainly hard to blame the Mavericks' recent struggles on Kidd, especially after Harrison orchestrated a Feb. 1 trade that sent five-time All-NBA guard Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Dončić is having a tremendous season for the Lakers, who are 8-3 despite missing LeBron James due to sciatica in his right side. He's posting 37.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game.
Meanwhile, the Mavs have struggled to get going this year, although they are missing Kyrie Irving, who is recovering from torn ACL suffered last March. Anthony Davis, the key piece returned from L.A. in the Dončić trade, has also played just five games due to injury.
So while the Mavericks have some big questions, including the choice for the team's new general manager, it's clear Kidd will stay aboard as Dallas looks to rebound from a difficult start.
