Luka Doncic, Lakers Beat Hornets as Austin Reaves' Injury Return Uplifts Fans
Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Charlotte Hornets 121–111 on Monday as Austin Reaves returned from injury and made an immediate impact with 24 points.
Doncic led the way with 38 points, six rebounds and seven assists, shooting an efficient 50 percent from the field while controlling the pace throughout the game.
All five starters scored in double figures, with Rui Hachimura adding 21 points, DeAndre Ayton contributing 14 and Marcus Smart chipping in 13 in the road win. Reaves added five rebounds and seven assists in his return.
Despite Miles Bridges' strong effort with 34 points, eight rebounds and five assists, the Hornets couldn't overcome the surging Lakers.
Fans celebrated the team's bounce-back performance with Reaves' return to the lineup.
With the win, the Lakers improved to 8–3 after dropping a disappointing game to the short-handed Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Hornets fell to 3–7 on the season.
In a tightly contested matchup, the Lakers led by two points at halftime as Doncic paced the offense with 21 points while Reaves added 17 before the break. Los Angeles began to pull away in the third quarter, taking a 96–78 lead into the fourth.
The Hornets refused to back down, mounting a late rally capped by a Bridges three-pointer to cut the deficit to six with 44.4 seconds remaining. However, clutch free throws from Doncic sealed the win as the Lakers held on down the stretch.
Los Angeles will look to carry its momentum into Wednesday's road matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
