Nico Harrison Firing Timeline Predicted by Mavs Insider, 'A Matter of When, Not If'

The Dallas Mavericks rank second-to-last in the Western Conference with a 3-7 record, and their tough start to the season reportedly could spell the end for general manager Nico Harrison.

During Monday's episode of The Hoop Collective (43:35 mark), ESPN's Tim MacMahon predicted that Harrison could be fired within the next few months.

"There's a whole lot of things that ain't good with the Mavericks. And hey, at this point, I believe it is a matter of when, not if, Nico Harrison will be fired," MacMahon said. "There is a very, very strong likelihood that it will be mid-season."

Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News added:

Dumont is apparently getting an up close look at the situation on Monday, attending his first game of the year when the Mavs take on the Milwaukee Bucks:

The Mavs have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league this year, as rookie phenom Cooper Flagg has struggled to live up to the hype, while their veteran-laden roster also underperforms. Star big man Anthony Davis has missed five games with a calf injury, putting him on the sidelines next to star point guard Kyrie Irving, who is recovering from a torn ACL. Veteran shooting guard Klay Thompson was moved to the bench amid his subpar play this year.

Dallas snapped a four-game losing streak and earned its first road win of the year by defeating the Washington Wizards (1-9) 111-105 on Saturday.

Perhaps the Mavs will be able to build on the momentum from Saturday's win and keep the positive vibes going when they meet the Milwaukee Bucks (6-4) on Monday night. However, MacMahon isn't confident that things will get better in Dallas anytime soon.

"Maybe they can get things turned around. Maybe his seat can go from sizzling to a more normal temperature," MacMahon said. "But I always say, every time I think that they've hit rock bottom, they find a way to drill deeper."
