Draymond Green Reportedly Will Accept Team USA's Minicamp Invitation
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green just inked a contract for a massive payday this offseason, but the NBA champion is reportedly slated to compete even more outside of his new deal.
Sam Amick of USA Today reported Wednesday that Green is set to accept an invitation for Team USA's minicamp in Las Vegas. This confirms what ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported last Tuesday.
The camp takes place Aug. 11-13 at the UNLV campus and figures to be stocked with elite, heated competition. Ahead of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the United States is trying to figure out who will fit into its latest loaded squad.
Green has an excellent all-around skill set, as evidenced by the triple-double he posted in the closeout Game 6 of this year's NBA Finals. The 25-year-old forward is an NBA All-Defensive first-team selection who also rebounds well and can even operate as a point forward when called upon.
The Warriors backcourt of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson often overshadowed Golden State's other standouts, yet Green managed to make headlines of his own. Now he'll get the chance to represent his country on an entirely different stage.
Based on how he handled the intense spotlight of the NBA postseason and the overall confidence Green tends to exude, he figures to be up for the challenge. Stein also indicated that another teammate of Green's, Harrison Barnes, was invited to the Vegas minicamp.
Team USA seems likely to be loaded on the wing and at the 3 position in particular. LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony come to mind as small forwards who can function at the 4 in smaller lineups, so Green will have his work cut out to make the final roster for the two-time reigning gold medalists.
