NBA Makes Scoring Change to Cavaliers-Wizards Over Tre Johnson Free Throw
The NBA corrected a scoring error in the Cleveland Cavaliers' lopsided win over the Washington Wizards on Friday night.
The league announced that in the second quarter of the game, Wizards rookie Tre Johnson connected on a free throw that was incorrectly recorded as a miss. The final score was changed from 148-114 to 148-115 on Saturday.
The Cavaliers held a 50-39 lead over the Wizards at the time of the score correction.
Updated scores are rare for the NBA but aren't unheard of, as the league similarly adjusted the final score of a blowout win by the Golden State Warriors over the Portland Trail Blazers early in the 2024-25 season.
While Friday's adjusted score could have been costly, Cleveland ultimately outscored Washington 72-55 in the second half and cruised to victory.
The update also brought Johnson to 19 points on the night, shooting 7-of-11 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point territory.
The No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft has been an early bright spot for the Wizards this season, as he's averaging 12.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game on 44.1/39.6/83.3 shooting splits through nine contests.
Washington sits at just 1-8 on the season and is currently in the midst of a seven-game losing streak, though.
