After dropping their first two games of the season against Oklahoma City and Detroit, the Rockets' hot streak came to an end on the road in San Antonio, while the Spurs snapped a two-game losing streak of their own to win their first game in NBA Cup Group Play.
Wembanyama led the Spurs with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Harrison Barnes added 24 points and five rebounds to help San Antonio improve to 6–2 on the season. Stephon Castle contributed 14 points and Devin Vassell added 15 points.

Durant finished with 24 points in a quiet outing, committing eight turnovers, while Alperen Sengun added 25 points for the Rockets, who fell to 5–3 with the loss.
