Victor Wembanyama Outduels Kevin Durant, Thrills NBA Fans as Spurs Beat Rockets

Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs handed Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets a 121–110 loss on Friday night, snapping Houston's five-game win streak.

After dropping their first two games of the season against Oklahoma City and Detroit, the Rockets' hot streak came to an end on the road in San Antonio, while the Spurs snapped a two-game losing streak of their own to win their first game in NBA Cup Group Play.

Wembanyama led the Spurs with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Harrison Barnes added 24 points and five rebounds to help San Antonio improve to 6–2 on the season. Stephon Castle contributed 14 points and Devin Vassell added 15 points.

Durant finished with 24 points in a quiet outing, committing eight turnovers, while Alperen Sengun added 25 points for the Rockets, who fell to 5–3 with the loss.

Fans praised Wembenyama and the Spurs with a big win over Durant and the Rockets. 

The Spurs entered halftime with a slim 51–50 lead, paced by four points from Wembanyama and nine from Vassell, who capped the half with a three-pointer. An intense third quarter kept the game close, with San Antonio maintaining a narrow four-point lead over the Rockets heading into the final frame.

Down the stretch, both teams traded baskets, but the Spurs made key plays late, including two crucial three-pointers from Champagnie, to extend their lead and secure a hard-fought win over Houston.

The Spurs will host the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, while the Rockets will hit the road to face the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday.
