Tyreek Hill Reacts to NFL Insider Saying Dolphins Will Release Him amid Injury Rehab

Zach BacharNov 7, 2025

Tyreek Hill fired back at Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald on social media after Kelly said that the Miami Dolphins will release the wide receiver in order to gain more financial flexibility on Friday.

Kelly then clarified that Hill would be playing once again in 2026, and the eight-time Pro Bowler agreed.

Hill is currently recovering from a season-ending knee injury that he suffered during the Dolphins' 27-21 win over the New York Jets on Sept. 29.

On Oct. 4, CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones also reported that Miami was expected to cut Hill before the start of the next league year in March 2026.

While the 31-year-old seems to be confident in his 2026 availability, he previously admitted that he thought about retirement.

"I'm happy with the career that I've had and I love playing football," Hill said during an Oct. 23 appearance on The Set podcast. "I love it. But it, man, but it takes a lot, man, to be the best and to stay at the top... And I'm at the point now where I need to have a conversation with Mom, family, everybody. Like I said, wherever my mind is at the time, the decision to be made, but I just know right now I feel like I haven't had time to just live in the moment, and just be in the moment with my family."

Hill currently has one season remaining on a three-year contract worth $90 million that he signed with Miami in Aug. 2024.

If the Dolphins ultimately release him and designate him as a post-June 1 cut, they'd record $36 million in 2026 cap savings (via Over the Cap). They would also take on a $15.9 million dead money charge, though.

Hill is only two years removed from a 2023 campaign in which he led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.

In four games prior to the knee injury this year, he caught 21 passes for 265 yards and one score.
